NAIROBI TO MT. KENYA BANDAS
Drive: 3.5 hours. Hike: 10km
Nairobi (1,795m) to Mt. Kenya Bandas (2,900m)
Collection from your hotel in Nairobi at 8:00am. We will drive through agricultural country up to Chogoria town for lunch. After lunch we'll take a 4x4 and drive up to the edge of the forest where we start the trek though dense bamboo to the camp at Mt Kenya Bandas (2,900m). We overnight here.
MT. KENYA BANDAS TO LAKE ELLIS
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Hike 10 km (4 hours)
Mt. Kenya Bandas (2,900m) to Lake Ellis (3,600m)
After breakfast we set off up the mountain at a nice and easy pace. A slightly longer walk via Lake Ellis gives scenic mountain views of Mugi, Ithanguni and the Giants Billiards Table. We will stop for lunch on the banks of a stream, before continuing up the hillside to our camp at about 3,600m.
LAKE ELLIS TO MINTOS CAMP
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Hike 10 km (4 hours)
Lake Ellis (3,600m) to Mintos Camp (4,200m)
After an early wake-up call and hearty breakfast we begin hiking on an off-the-beaten path up the mountain for about 3 hours until we join the tourist track on the normal Chogoria route. The air will feel a little thinner now as we are at an altitude of about 4,100m. From this vantage point you will get breath-taking views over the Gorges Valley and back over towards Ithanguni and the Northern Moorlands. Lunch is served at a small stream crossing, before continuing for a further hour to the Mintos Hut area at 4,200m, where we will sleep for the night.
Please note: we will spend the afternoon relaxing at the camp, though a 10 minute walk to the "Temple" is well worth the effort. This is a 150m vertical cliff that gets its name from the position visitors often adopt when peering over the edge - they look as if they are praying.
An early night is recommended as we will be attempting the summit next day.
MINTOS CAMP TO POINT LENANA (SUMMIT) TO OLD MOSES CAMP
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Hike 24 km (11-12 hours)
Mintos Camp (4,200m) to Point Lenana (4,985m) to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)
Our pre-dawn attempt of the summit starts at 3:00am, where we hike for about three hours up to Point Lenana (4985m), the hiker's summit. We should arrive in time to watch the African sunrise. After spending some time at the summit we will descend to Shipton camp for breakfast. After breakfast, we will begin a 5 hour descent via Mackinder's valley to the Old Moses Camp (3,300m). The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the stunning moorlands before reaching the camp. Dinner and overnight at Old Moses camp.
OLD MOSES CAMP TO NAIROBI
Hike 9 km (2 hours), Drive: 3.5 hours.
Old Moses Camp (3,300m) to Nairobi (1,795m)
After an early morning breakfast we will descend for 3 hours to the Sirimon Park gate. From here we will be collected by vehicle and transferred back to Nairobi, arriving by 17:00.

Mount Kenya Summiteers
Just a quick note to say thank you to Evans and the team who helped us reach the summit of Mount Kenya last week. What an amazing experience, so much fun and lots of laughs. An excellent trip!
Outstanding adventure up Mount Kenya!
My wife and I booked the 5 day Chogoria – Sirimon trek. The service and especially the quick and clear response from the Mountain IQ team was excellent and very professional. Once in Kenya we always had a very safe and secure experience, with the highlight being summiting Point Lenana at sunrise. The Chogoria – Sirimon route was an excellent choice. The landscape and flora was beautiful! We very much appreciated the whole organization, starting with the transport from Nairobi and ending with the pickup at the Sirimon gate. Our guide John and his excellent team made the trip an amazing experience which we will never forget. The friendliness and the service during the hike including the wide variety of excellent meals was outstanding.
A special tip for other hikers: be prepared for quiet cold nights once you get above 3,000m.
We would definitely recommend booking this trip to trek Mount Kenya!
