Jetboil Flash - Detailed Review

The Jetfoil Flash definitely has price on its side, at $99.95 it is much cheaper than most other integrated canister stoves on the market.

If efficiency is what you are after, you definitely won’t regret purchasing this stove. It is both easy to assemble and disassemble and is stable when in use.

The Jetboil Flash thrives when it comes to boiling water, it can bring 16oz of water up to the boil in under 100 seconds and is incredibly fuel efficient.

It comes with an insulating jacket which keeps heat well as well as a sturdy handle strap.

A great feature is that it has a “thermochromatic” sensor which indicates when your water is about to reach boiling point by changing colour from black to orange.

It weighs only 13.1oz and will fit nicely into your daypack without adding too much extra weight.

One of the downfalls of the stove is that it does not function well in cold and windy weather, meaning the fuel consumption will skyrocket once winds reach above a certain point.

The Jetboil Flash may excel when it comes to boiling water, but that is pretty much all it does so if you are planning on making more extravagant meals, this may not be the stove for you.

However, it is the perfect stove for backpackers who eat a lot of dehydrated and instant food and are looking for a quick and easy way to cook it.

The stove is great for boiling water very quickly and making coffee and oatmeal. This stove is more about efficiency than overall practicality.

Key Takeaway

The Jetfoil Flash is reliable, efficient, convenient and affordable. It is a great option for those who mostly eat dehydrated and instant food and are looking for a stove as simple as their diet.

The fuel conservancy and heat sensor are fantastic. But, if you are planning on camping in an area where you may experience cold and windy conditions or if you are looking to prepare hearty meals each night, it may be best for you to choose a different product to suit your specific needs.

Key Features

Fuel Efficiency

The Jetboil Flash is incredibly fuel efficient when used in the right conditions, it should be used in a sheltered area to avoid the wind. It uses isobutane/propane and the speed at which the water boils should not impact the amount of fuel used.

The “thermochromactic” sensor indicates when water approaches boiling which also helps you save fuel. You can comfortably rely on a single canister of fuel if you’re planning on using the Jetboil Flash over a weekend trip.

The pot’s FluxRing bottom is designed to increase fuel efficiency and ensure quick heating. The pot is also well insulated meaning the water will stay hotter for longer, so you won’t have to keep reheating it.

Quick Boiling Time

The Jetboil Flash ca boil 6oz (2 cups) of water in under 100 seconds. The speed of boiling is due to the increased output (9000 BTUs) and the redesigned heat exchanger, this combination is faster than any other similar heating system on the market.

The pot’s FluxRing bottom also increases the heating time. This stove is a fantastic option if you are looking to quickly and efficiently heat water whilst camping, however, it only works well in relatively calm weather conditions and trying to use the stove in cold or windy conditions will significantly increase the boiling time.

Ease of Use

The Jetboil Flash is incredibly straightforward and easy to use. It is easy to assemble as well as disassemble and also easy to clean. There is a secure connection between the burner and the pot.

The long control valve makes it easy to adjust the amount of heat and fuel you use, and the built-in igniter works flawlessly making it very easy to light.
